In the late 1980s, a flight sim was released for the Amiga which was so atmospheric, so unbelievably cool that to this day it holds a special place in the heart of most nostalgic 20 and 30 something geeks. Its enduring appeal is different from that of PacMan or Pong - people still really love this game. That's why there is a usenet thread nearly 13 years long discussing how to finish the last mission. That game was F/A18 Interceptor, and it was programmed by Bob Dinnerman.

I'm delighted to find that along with Phil I'm not the only person reading a nerdy book on the history of cities.
Now, if you think that the famous bombs poem was the worst thing ever written about Slough, get this quote from 1933:
"I would certainly sooner go back for another year in wartime Ypres than spend a twelvemonth in post-war Slough. Should that sound like an over-statement I should explain that it is merely the prudent desire of one who desires to remain happily alive, and who would therefore assuredly choose an eighty percent chance of being shot, gassed or blown up in heroic company to the certainty of cutting his own throat in surroundings of humiliating squalor."
